Guangzhou Industrial Investment Group visits Reforgene

On March 27, Luo Junfu, Party Secretary and Chairman of Guangzhou Industrial Investment Holding Group Co., Ltd. ("Guangzhou Industrial Investment Capital"), led a team to Guangzhou Reforgene Medicine Co., Ltd. ("Reforgene") for research and guidance. The visit focused on the disruptive technology innovation special project of the National Key R&D Program undertaken by Reforgene (the "disruptive technology project"), aiming to gain a comprehensive understanding of the project's progress and promote the deep integration of gene editing technology and the biomedical industry. Huang Junjiu, co-founder and Chief Scientific Advisor of Reforgene, and other core team members warmly received the delegation and gave a detailed report on the company's development achievements.

Huang Junjiu extended a sincere welcome to the delegation led by Luo Junfu and highlighted the progress of the company's disruptive technology project. In 2024, Reforgene achieved another success: its "autologous hematopoietic stem cell gene editing therapy for one-time cure of thalassemia" was officially approved under the disruptive technology innovation special project of the National Key R&D Program.

In terms of product development achievements, the beta-thalassemia medicine RM001 has successfully completed Phase I clinical trials, setting multiple firsts, including the first cure of an adult thalassemia patient in China and the first cure of a thalassemia patient who had undergone splenectomy, with clinical data at an internationally leading level. RM004, the world's first gene editing medicine for alpha-thalassemia, successfully cured the world's first patient. Reforgene has thereby become the only innovative drug technology company in the world to achieve cures for both alpha- and beta-thalassemia.

Moreover, the IND application for Reforgene's ophthalmology medicine RM101 for Usher syndrome has been approved by regulators in both China and the United States, making it the first and only gene medicine approved for clinical use in this indication worldwide. In underlying technology innovation, Reforgene also performs outstandingly: the company has built a proprietary portfolio of gene editing technology tools covering CRISPR/Cas12, CRISPR/Cas13, base editing and epigenetic editing, establishing leading core competitiveness, and is one of the few enterprises with gene editing patents and underlying technology development capabilities.

During the visit, the two sides held in-depth and productive exchanges on topics including the biomedical capital market landscape, clinical translation pathways and business strategy. Both sides agreed that, under the current economic situation, the capital market should increase support for innovative enterprises, helping enterprises with outstanding technological attributes and rich achievements participate in global competition and build China's innovative biomedical brand.
