Hainan TV: first successful gene editing treatment of thalassemia in Hainan

On November 7, 2025, Haikou News Broadcast reported Hainan Province's first successful gene editing treatment of severe beta-thalassemia. Lin Lin (pseudonym), a 16-year-old patient with severe beta-thalassemia, was discharged smoothly after receiving gene editing treatment at the Hematology Department of Hainan Provincial People's Hospital. He is the first patient in Hainan Province to be successfully treated for severe beta-thalassemia through gene editing technology. The beta-thalassemia gene editing medicine used in Lin Lin's treatment is RM001, independently developed by Reforgene. At present, RM001 has completed its confirmatory clinical trial and is in the follow-up stage. The product is a curative gene editing medicine with globally leading level developed by Reforgene, with excellent clinical efficacy and safety.
